My Blog OnurSendere.com Turns 10!
Exactly 10 years ago… In a different city, among different people, busy with different things and still a university student, I published my first blog post. On 7 November 2008.
The title of the sample post that came with WordPress, the platform I built the blog on, was “Merhaba Dünya” – Turkish for “Hello World”. I loved that title, and with the blog I really did want to say hello to a new world, so I left it exactly as it was. My blog’s first name was “Yobiil”. It was made up of the first two letters of the Turkish words yorum, bilgi and ilgi (comment, information and interest). To my mind, it was a really clever name and a great one that could become a brand. I still laugh whenever I think of it. :)
As the years went by, a great deal changed in my life too. Graduation, the world of work, military service, new friendships, lifelong friends, starting a family, adopting a pet, joys, sorrows and much more besides all fitted into these ten years. That’s no small thing – ten years!
After ten years, my blog could have been somewhere completely different, but I wasn’t able to give it much attention. I’ve often regretted that, because this blog has given me a great deal, in both tangible and intangible ways. It could have given me much more… It still could; as long as there’s life, that opportunity will be there too. Right?
If I want to look back at some of the posts I’ve published over these ten years that stand out from the rest, I’d list them like this.
You Said It, I Did It: Free Hugs!
YouTube had only been around for a few years and wasn’t very popular yet. So, at a time when social experiment videos weren’t getting anything like the attention they do now, Aykut and I went to Tunalı Hilmi Caddesi, one of Ankara’s busiest streets, and I stood there for a few hours holding a “Free Hugs” sign. How to Buy and Invest in IOTA
Although I came to the world of cryptocurrency late, I made my first investment when IOTA, one of the most popular cryptocurrencies of recent times, came out. But my real investment turned out to be the post I wrote about buying IOTA on Binance, because thanks to that post, around 250 visitors signed up to Binance using my referral. Eyewitness – A Short Story
I published my first short story on my blog as well. It holds a special place for me, both because it was my first and because it still draws me in whenever I reread it now and then. If you’d like to read it: https://www.onursendere.com/gorgu-tanigi.html
There are plenty more posts. Thanks to the posts I wrote based on the fabric, yarn and clothing training I received as a student and at Marks & Spencer, someone from the Middle East even wanted to place a yarn order with me. :) A sock manufacturer once invited me to tour their factory and talk about yarns. That’s exactly why I say you never know what a blog might bring its owner – you can’t even begin to guess!
If you have any thoughts about my blog, I’d be really happy if you shared them in the comments. Thank you for reading this post and this blog – and if you’re one of my regular readers, I’m truly grateful!
